An old friend in the toy trade has started up a toy import business and he approached me recently to get the ball rolling on a new range for a scandinavian customer, Bilico.
The project was for a range of outdoor toys – an inline scooter, balance bike and a twist scooter. Mattias, the main man at Bilico told me he already had a style in mind and after discussion I came to the conclusion that not only did we need packaging and decals done, but we also needed a style guide, for easier roll out to subsequent products that may come along.
The chinese factory tasked with manufacturing the products provided me with cutter guides for boxes and decals and some images to be used on the packaging. As ever, the factories idea of good photography and mine is markedly different, so I spent a fair amount of time taking their images and making them ship shape for use on the boxes.
This has been a welcome project to get my teeth into, re-flexing my muscles for development of new products, and running with a customers idea for design, to roll it out for a small but soon to grow range.
The key thing for me has been the feedback from Mattias. He’s really pleased with the results and appreciative of the speed to realise his vision for the Livio Sprint range.
